Dateline Hayden, AZ Once again looking at the problems in a city that has lost a lot of its mining. Buildings in shambles in every part of town. In most towns you can find a newer section, more modern homes, not in the once thriving mining towns. Deterioration is everywhere.

Mining Towns Route 77

This project is focusing on three mining towns, San Manuel, Mammoth, and Hayden. All of these towns were prosperous at one time. For whatever reason, the mines closed or limited their production. Consequently, the towns have begun to deteriorate. The average income is at the poverty level and their is little work to be found. Theses photos represent some of the land denigration that has taken place.

Mammoth, San Manuel, Hayden, AZ

These once proud mining towns are gradually falling into decay. They are located along HWY 77 running north from Tucson. Many years ago I decided to photograph the decay in these towns. However, I could never get my head around how to do the project. That finally has happened. Gradually, as the project develops I will have a page on my web site.
