Pulled out the Leica M9 used hyper-focal technique to get some decent shots. Too bad I didn’t stop the big guy here for a street photo. Maybe he was too big!! Adjusting for the high contrast is a problem. I’m going to start shooting later with a smaller f stop.

4th Avenue on a Friday

DSC00218.jpg
Brought out the Sony Nex 6 to do a few shots. Worked on street candids and “pedal power”. The day was moderately successful with one or two keepers. Hot day generally uneventful.

Bisbee/Lowell, AZ

Friday March1, 2013L9993645-Edit

Finally started the Arizona mining town project. Using the Leica M9 and the Zeiss Ikon, began to photograph some really run down structures in these two towns.
I have been thinking about this project for many years and have finally gotten started. Many of these towns are heavily dilapidated. I need to go for the grainy, old look. With many mining towns in AZ in would imagine this project will take several years. First I need to understand  the character of he town then adequately photographing it.
Used Delta 3200 @ ISO 1600 to get that old look in the photos.

4th Avenue, Just Another Day, Film Camera

February 23, 2013
Well, had the Zeiss Ikon out again and was shooting Ilford XP Plus. Pushed it to 1600 and waiting for development. Worked on a project that is on the web site “pedal power” not sure if that title is going to stick or not. Stayed at one location on 4th Ave to shoot the bicycles and heir unique riders. The Zeiss fires slower than a digital camera, I think. Not certain how well I captured the riders. One guy saw the film camera and said “man I haven’t seen a film camera in a long time” 🙂

4th Avenue Another Day Shooting

February 22, 2012
Brought out the Sony Nex 6 the next in the lineup. Not much going on only spent about 40 minutes then off to another appointment. I had trouble shooting with my sunglasses. The take them off stupid! Anyway, hopefully will be back tomorrow with either the Leica or Zeiss Ikon.

Going back to film,,,with trepidation

2/10/2013: Well I took the Zeiss Ikon out for the first day, loaded with Ilford XPlus film. It was a pleasure. Photographed on 4th Ave during a “trunk show”. Interesting could have stayed all day. Got a roll shot waiting for development.
Composed selectively and shot thoughtfully, it was a great feeling. No chimping allowed!

Tucson Downtown

11/25/2012: Slow day downtown. Not much activity even though it was Small Business Day. A couple of pics but nothing great

Sony Nex 6

11/20/2012: Worked with Sony Nex 6. Camera seems to be a good backup to Leica M9. Focus is quick. I do not like a zoom lens (18-55mm) on the camera. Prefer to have a single focus.

Canyon X

The trip to Canyon X is about to begin. Located near Page, AZ it can only be accessed with special permission. The exploration begins on Wednesday of this week.

slot canyon is a narrow canyon, formed by the wear of water rushing through rock. A slot canyon is significantly deeper than it is wide. Some slot canyons can measure less than one metre (3 ft) across at the top but drop more than 30 m (100 ft) to the floor of the canyon.

Most slot canyons are formed in sandstone and limestone rock, although slot canyons in other rock types such as granite and basalt are possible. Even in sandstone and limestone, only a very small number of creeks will form slot canyons. This is due to a combination of the particular characteristics of the rock, and regional rainfall.

UPDATE 11/16/2012: Canyon X was a good choice. Quiet no other photogs, a good place to be. Note the canyon is not as large as Antelope Lower, but it does not have the foot traffic that kicks up the dust.

UPDATE 11/21/2012: First photos from Canyon x slots
